LANCASTER, Pa. -- Haverford's Jamie Moreland and Ursinus' Isaiah Battle were named athletes of the year while Johns Hopkins' Emmanuel Leblond and the JHU coaching staff received the other major honors on the 2023 All-Centennial Men's Indoor Track & Field Team.
Moreland was selected as the Track Athlete of the Year following a stellar senior indoor campaign for the Fords' mid-distance and distance standout. Moreland posted two of the fastest times in Centennial history in the 800 and mile. Moreland ran a 4:03.66 mile on Jan. 27 at Boston University, the third-fastest mile time in CC history that also ranks fifth on the national list. His 800 time of 1:52.93 at the TCNJ Invite ranks fourth in conference history. He won the 800 at the CC championship with a time of 1:53.81. Moreland also anchored the championship-record-breaking distance medley relay for the Fords at the CC meet, posting a time of 10:00.77 that currently ranks 12th in Division III.
Battle was tabbed as the Field Athlete of the Year. The senior has broken the conference weight throw mark three times this season, including a new conference and championship mark of 18.00m at last weekend's CC championship. That mark ranks 23rd nationally. Battle also secured a silver medal in the shot put with a tosss of 15.60m, which ranks sixth in Centennial history and 37th in the nation.
Leblond was named Rookie of the Year as the top newcomer throughout the indoor season. The Hopkins distance runner owns the third-best CC time in the 5,000m (14:26.64) and fifth-fastest 3,000m time (8:21.92). He also boasts a 4:18 mile this season. His 5k time ranks 18th in the nation. Leblond scored 13 points for the Blue Jays at the CC championship, taking second in the 5k and 4th in the 3k.
The Johns Hopkins coaching staff was chosen as Coaching Staff of the Year in the inaugural year of the award. Previously labeled the Coach of the Year award, the Centennial re-named the award Coaching Staff of the Year for all sports in 2022-23. JHU head coach Bobby Van Allen and assistants Shedrick Elliott III, Maura Knestout, Alex Jebb, Jefferson Butler, and Vicki Pellicciotti guided the Blue Jays to their 10th straight CC indoor crown.
