20 Individuals, One Relay Headed to NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Twenty individuals and one relay will represent the Centennial Conference at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships from May 26-28 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. 

For each men’s individual event contested, including the decathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each women’s individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.

Fifteen women will compete individually at the championship in 12 different events. Johns Hopkins' Ella Baran headlines the perfomance list in the 5,000 meters with the nation's top time (15:49.09), while JHU's Victoria Kadiri enters the championship ranked second in both the long jump (6.06m) and triple jump (12.42m). Baran and Kadiri were both national champions during the indoor season, with Baran taking gold in the mile and Kadiri winning the long jump.

JHU's Annie Gutierrez will compete in a trio of events and ranks fourth in the long jump (5.93m), sixth in the pole vault (3.88m) and seventh in the heptathlon (4,628). Ursinus' Isabelle Deal (4th | 44.15m) and Gettysburg's Holly Ferrara (6th | 44.08m) are seeded near the top of the field in the javelin, while Swarthmore's Adria Retter also enters the meet with a top-five mark in the discus (46.03m) and will also compete in the shot put. JHU's Alex Ross (34:57.80) is sixth in the 10,000 meters and eighth in the 5,000 (16:41.14). Lina Spjut of Hopkins also boasts a top-10 mark in the 5k (10th | 16:41.83) this spring. 

On the men's side, Haverford's Jamie Moreland owns the top seed entering the championship, ranked 10th in the 1500 meters (3:47.10). 

Hopkins leads all CC institutions with eighth women and three men's qualifiers, followed by Swarthmore (3 women) and Dickinson (2 women) with multiple entries. Gettysburg, Haverford and McDaniel will each be represented by one athlete each, while Ursinus has the lone relay from the Centennial in the field (men's 4x400).
