Blue Jays Edge Bears in Men's Outdoor Track & Field Poll

LANCASTER, Pa. – Johns Hopkins edged defending-champion Ursinus atop the 2023 Centennial Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Poll. The Blue Jays received six first-place votes and 62 points, while the Bears collected the remaining three first-place nods and 56 points. 

McDaniel was projected to take third place with 47 points, followed by Dickinson (41) and Haverford (39) in the top five. Muhlenberg (26), Swarthmore (20), Gettysburg (19), and Franklin & Marshall (11) rounded out the preseason rankings a vote among conference head coaches. 

The majority of CC teams are set to open the outdoor campaign in late March. The Centennial Outdoor Championship meet is set for May 5-7 at Ursinus.

Ursinus won eight of 22 events to claim its first-ever Centennial Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field title last spring on its home turf. The Bears tallied 215 points to defeated second-place Johns Hopkins (189) by 26, ending a seven-year title run for the Blue Jays. 

The team title marked the first in Centennial history for the Bears, who became just the fourth program to win a men's outdoor crown. Haverford owns the most titles in CC history with 18, followed by Hopkins (7), Dickinson (2) and Ursinus (1). 

At the NCAA Championship, Haverford tied for 56th in the team standings while Hopkins tied for 74th. 

On the men's side, Haverford tied for 56th with three points while Hopkins tied for 74th with one point. Haverford's Jamie Moreland is the lone returning All-American in the conference following a sixth-place finish in the 1500 meters last spring.
