Tuesday's Softball Recap

Dickinson  3-0, Gettysburg 0-9
The Dickinson College softball team split a Centennial Conference double-header with visiting Gettysburg on a chilly Tuesday evening at Dickinson Park.  The Red Devils captured the opener with a 3-0 decision behind eight strikeouts from sophomore pitcher Chelsea Homa, posting a three-hit shutout.  The Bullet bats came alive in the sixth in game two as they tacked on six more with a seven-hit inning. Lindsey Treanor earned the win in the circle, holding the Devils to just a pair of hits in the nightcap. She recorded just one strikeout and allowed three walks, but solid defense held the shutout.

 

Franklin & Marshall 7-8, Albright 5-8
Franklin & Marshall won and tied against non-conference opponent Albright on Tuesday afternoon. The Diplomats (11-12-1) notched the win in game one, 7-5, from Laura Wagoner's second two-run RBI of the game, while game two ended in an 8-8 decision in the fifth inning due to darkness, the Lions fell to 4-13-1 on the season.

 

Haverford 12-0, Widener 8-5
Elizabeth Newman delivered six hits on the day as the Haverford College softball team earned a split of a non-conference doubleheader with host Widener University on Tuesday afternoon. The Fords took down the Pride, 12-8, in Game 1 before falling, 5-0, in Game 2.

 

Muhlenberg 8-6, Eastern 1-7
The Mules flexed their muscles in winning the first game, 8-1, before dropping the nightcap, 7-6.

 

Swarthmore 9-8, PSU-Berks 2-4
The Swarthmore College softball team's explosive offense was clicking on all cylinders Tuesday afternoon, as the Garnet (12-14, 0-8) pounded out 17 runs over two games in a doubleheader sweep of Penn-State Berks (9-2 and 8-4).  Leading the Garnet offense were senior shortstop Elizabeth Cushing (pictured) and junior Kate Smayda. Cushing finished the doubleheader with four hits, including a three-for-four performance in the first game that included a home run and two doubles. Cushing's second-inning double in the first game marked a milestone, placing her fifth all-time in program history in career hits. Smayda also hit the 100-hit plateau thanks to her four-hit afternoon.
