Gettysburg 9-3, Hood 0-6
Senior Adrienne
Rahs (pictured, above) shattered Gettysburg’s
career record for doubles as the Bullets knocked off Hood College
9-0 in the opening game of a non-conference doubleheader at Bobby
Jones Field. The hosts came up short of the sweep as the Blazers
held on for a 6-3 victory in the nightcap. Rahs moved past
Karyn Miller ’00 for the program record for doubles with 38.
Rahs, who set Gettysburg’s single-season record for doubles
with 15 last spring, has set or tied several program marks this
year including career hit-by-pitches (19) and single-game home runs
(2) and RBI (7). She is also just two RBI and four runs away from
reaching the century mark in both of those categories.
McDaniel 12-2, Swarthmore
2-0
McDaniel scored nine runs in the top of the first inning of game
one on just two hits to key a doubleheader sweep of Swarthmore in
Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on
Tuesday.
Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford), the reigning CC
Pitcher of the Week, mowed down another 23 batters in 12 innings of
work to crack the 200-K mark for the season to join only Ursinus'
Lauren Davis as the only conference pitchers to fan 200-plus
batters in a single season.
Muhlenberg 6-17, Haverford
0-13
Of the 23 runs the Muhlenberg softball team scored in its home
doubleheader sweep of Haverford, six came in on errors, four on
bases-loaded walks, two on fielder’s choice grounders and one
on a sacrifice fly. There were a surprising lack of big hits for
such a high score, but it was no surprise who had the biggest
hit. Sophomore Kelly Kline the
reigning Centennial Conference player of the week, hit her first
career grand slam to cap a 10-run third inning that keyed a 17-13
win in Game 2. Behind the pitching of freshman Kelsey
Jones, the Mules (11-11, 6-2) won the first game, 6-0.
Ursinus 8-12, Immaculata
1-5
Ursinus swept a doubleheader from Immaculata on Tuesday afternoon
in non-conference softball action. In game one, Ursinus held
the Mighty Macs to just one hit in an 8-1 win, before roaring back
to take the nightcap 12-5.
