Later in the day the Fords took down Denison University, 5-2, to complete the sweep of non-conference competition.

Waldorf 2, Swarthmore 0
Suness Jones '16 scattered six hits in her collegiate pitching debut for Swarthmore but the Garnet offense was held quiet by Waldorf starter Holly Gilbertson in a 2-0 loss on Sunday.  In the brisk 1:10 pitcher's duel, surpassed in length by a five mile post-game walk to Bojangles by half of the Garnet coaching staff, the NAIA Wildcats (4-5) plated a pair of runs in the first inning and held on as Gilbertson retired 11 in a row to end the contest.

Washington College 13, Coast Guard 0
Waynesburg 2, Washington College 1

The Washington College softball team split a pair of contest in the Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola County Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon in non-conference softball action.  The Shorewomen downed the three-time reigning New England Men's & Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Champions Coast Guard, 13-0 in five innings, but fell to Waynesburg in the second game, 2-1.  The Shorewomen are now 5-1 on the season.

Baldwin-Wallace 2, Dickinson 0
Dickinson 4, Edgewood 2

The Dickinson softball team split a pair of games to open spring break play in Arizona on Sunday afternoon. The Red Devils suffered a 2-0 setback to Baldwin-Wallace University and claimed a 4-2 victory over Edgewood College.

Saturday, March 9

Kenyon 4, Franklin & Marshall 0
Franklin & Marshall 3, Bridgewater State 1

Franklin & Marshall's softball team split a pair of  non-conference contests to open its spring break trip on Saturday. The Diplomats (1-3) started the day with a 4-0 loss to Kenyon before picking up their first win of the season in a 3-1 victory over Bridgewater State.

Scranton 10, Gettysburg 9
Lynchburg 5, Gettysburg 1
Shenandoah 8, Gettysburg 1

The Gettysburg College softball team was literally robbed of a victory in its first contest of the spring as a potential game-winning home run was plucked from the air by the left fielder in a 10-9 loss to the University of Scranton at the Salisbury University Sea Gull Classic on Saturday. The Bullets also fell to Lynchburg College (5-1) and Shenandoah University (8-1) to close the opening day of the 2013 campaign.

Swarthmore 12, Mitchell 0
Melissa O'Connor
'14 dazzled in the circle in the season opener for the Swarthmore softball team as the Garnet (1-0) shut out Mitchell 12-0 on Saturday. In a performance where "dominant" would be a vicious understatement, O'Connor took a no-hit bid into the sixth and struck out 18 batters to set a Swarthmore program record and tie Lauren Davis-Macedonia (Ursinus '10) for the second –highest single game total in Centennial history. Commanding the strike zone on both sides of the plate, O'Connor allowed single walks in the first and fifth and surrendered a clean line-drive single to center with one out in the sixth to face just three above the minimum.  The first ten outs the junior recorded were all via strikes.
