McClammy Powers Garnet Past Bullets in CC First Round

GETTYSBURG, PA. - Fifth-seeded Swarthmore took down fourth-seeded Gettysburg 11-2 in the opening round of the Centennial Conference softball tournament on Tuesday afternoon in Gettysburg. With the win, the Garnet advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament, while the Bullets conclude the year at 24-14-1.

Offensively, the Garnet were helmed by a pair of monster performances from Sophomore Olivia McClammy and first year Iris Barone. McClammy led the way with four hits, two runs, four RBIs and a stolen base, including a home run, while Barone tallied a stat line of three hits, two runs, one RBI and one stolen base.

From the circle, Swarthmore saw a stellar performance out of sophomore Emily Bertrand. The righty pitched a full game, striking out six batters while allowing just four hits and two earned runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a first inning in which both squads were held without a run, the Garnet got the scoring rolling in the second. Blasting a solo shot to center field, McClammy torched the Gettysburg defense, putting Swarthmore up 1-0.

- McClammy struck again in the third, smashing an RBI single to right field and bringing in Barone and senior Cassidy Cheong. The Garnet further extended their lead when McClammy herself crossed home thanks to a single from Bertrand, as Swarthmore closed out the inning up 4-0.

- While the Bullets finally got on the board in the bottom of the third, McClammy responded right back for the Garnet in the fourth. Torching her second RBI single to right field, the right-handed batter brought home sophomore Jordan Jackson, growing Swarthmore's lead back out to four at 5-1.

- While the bats were kept quiet during the fifth, the Garnet exploded back to life in the sixth, as Barone, Cheong, McClammy, sophomore Grace Taylor and senior Brooke Coneeny all stomped on home plate. Thanks to the artillery barrage from the batter's box, Swarthmore saw their advantage balloon up to ten at 11-1.

- While Gettysburg would manage one more run in the bottom of the sixth, their offense proved no match to the Garnet's firepower, as Swarthmore ran the Bullets out of their home stadium by a score of 11-2.
