AUSTIN, TEXAS. – Recent graduate Meredith Brown (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) was named to the 2020-21 Academic All-America Division III Women's Basketball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) it was announced Wednesday.

Brown was named Academic All-America Third Team, becoming the first Gettysburg women's basketball player in program history to earn the honor. The accolade marks the second consecutive year a Gettysburg student-athlete has captured Academic All-America honors as former women's lacrosse player Liz Barr '20 received the award last year. Brown is the 28th Gettysburg student-athlete overall to gain national academic status from CoSIDA.

She was one of 15 student-athletes to make the team, which included just three schools located in Pennsylvania. The only representative on the team from the Centennial Conference, she captured a spot on the Academic All-America ballot by making the Academic All-District 4 First Team last month.

A two-time Centennial Conference honoree, Brown earned her first national award after playing a key role on the Bullets squad for three seasons. After coming off the bench for the Bullets as a freshman, Brown went on to start in all but two games as a sophomore and junior. In her junior season, she finished second on the team in scoring (8.7 ppg), third in rebounds (4.9 rpg) and field goal percentage (46.2), while ranking fifth in the league in field goal percentage.

During her career in the orange and blue, she finished with averages of 7.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in 84 appearances. The forward helped the Bullets reach the conference title game and a berth into the NCAA Division III Championship for three consecutive seasons, including winning the 2018 CC crown.

In addition to registering her first CoSIDA Academic All-District Team laurel last month, Brown also earned the 2019-20 CC Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was a two-time member of the Academic All-Centennial Team and a three-time selection to the CC Academic Honor Roll.

Brown was extremely impressive in the classroom as she maintained an astonishing grade-point average of 3.98. She was tabbed to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and she was given the Clair B., Mary E., and Constance Noerr (Baker) Memorial Award, which is presented to a female senior on the basis of proficiency in athletics, scholarship, and character. Brown was also the recipient of the Biochemistry/Molecular Biology Award and the Gettysburg College Premedical Award. Brown graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She will be attending medical school at Temple University to pursue her MD.
