For the first time in program history, the Ursinus College women's golf team came away with the trophy at the Ursinus Fall Invitational, edging Division II Millersville by two strokes at Raven's Claw on Tuesday.
The Bears carded a team tally of 356 and placed all four of their golfers in the top 16 individually to grab the fifth team championship in school history, all within the last calendar year. The Marauders (358) were succeeded in the standings by East Stroudsburg (369), Marywood (376), Alvernia (381), Albright (388), Susquehanna (426), and Arcadia (479).
Alvernia's Emily Gilbert shot an 80 to claim individual medalist honors. Millersville's Danielle Freed and Danielle Green signed for matching 82s to tie for second, but Ursinus' closely packed scores carried the day.
Sophomore Emily McGarrigle had the Bears' top score, an 85 (+14) that landed her sixth in a field of 50 golfers. It was the second consecutive 85 for McGarrigle, who recorded the same card at the season-opening McDaniel Fall Invitational. Sophomore Rebecca Chiger tied for seventh with an 86, and classmate Matison Leand finished with an 89 to tie for 10th. Junior Sarah Thompson carded a 96 to round out Ursinus' foursome.
The Susquehanna women's golf team placed seventh at Tuesday's Ursinus Fall Invitational. The invite was held on the par 71, 5995 course at Raven's Claw Golf Club.
Ursinus won its invite with a team score of 356 (+72). SU shot a 426 (+142) to place seventh out of eight teams.
Samantha Thompson was the River Hawks' top finisher, tying for 19th after shooting a 97 (+26). Michelle Davidson took 30th with her score of 104. Kira Hunter was 32nd (108, +37) and Jocelyn Tomayo 41st (117, +46).
The Muhlenberg women's golf team sent two players to the Ursinus Fall Invitational.
Freshman Kat Hodges shot an 86, one stroke better than her season-opening score at the McDaniel Fall Invitational. She tied for seventh place.in a field of 50 golfers and tied for fourth among Division III competitors.
Freshman Anisha Reddy finished with a 102 in her Mule debut.
