Ursinus Upends #19 Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Ursinus Bears Women's Lacrosse team recorded a huge 8-5 win Saturday afternoon at Patterson field against the Red Devils of Dickinson College. The game went back and forth the whole day with each team trading goals throughout the first half.

Dickinson exploded out of the gates going up 2-0 but junior goalkeeper Margaret Philbin (Danbury, CT/Ridgefield High School) stood tall with save after save, recording 8 on the day.

Senior midfielder Kitty Dawson (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) netted back-to-back goals to tie the game at 2-2 midway through the first half. Junior Brynn Dietzel (Warrington, PA/Upper Dublin) scored at the 7:24 mark of the first half to send the teams to the locker room deadlocked at 5-5.

Less than four minutes into the second half Dietzel found the goal again to make it 6-5, Ursinus's first lead of the day. It was also the go ahead goal and the Bears never looked back from that point on.

The Bears defense was tough all game forcing 15 Dickinson turnovers, nine of which came in the second half. The Red Devils only managed five shots the entire second half as well, compared to their 13 in the first half.

With just over three minutes to go in the game Dawson ripped a shot past Red Devil goalie JoJo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, MD/Bullis School) for the final goal of the day making it 8-5 and putting the game out of reach.

With the win Ursinus moves to 2-7 on the year but more importantly 1-1 in the Centennial Conference. While Dickinson drops to 4-3 and 1-1 in the Centennial Conference.

The Bears will take on Washington College this upcoming Wednesday April 1st at Patterson field at 7 PM.
