BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Bryn Mawr Director of Athletics Kathy Tierney has announced a restructuring of the Bryn Mawr Athletics department staff today. Central to that restructuring plan is the promotion of Katie Tarr to Associate Athletic Director. As part of that promotion, Tarr will also be retiring from her current position as head lacrosse coach at Bryn Mawr.

Tarr has served as head coach for the Owls lacrosse team since August of 2003. Tarr's teams always seemed to find success both on and off the field, with her squads and players receiving too many academic awards and recognitions to list. Tarr's career winning percentage with the lacrosse program of 27.8 is the highest of any coach since 1994. Tarr also served as the head basketball coach at Bryn Mawr for five seasons, and once again she is the winningest coach in that program since 1994. She also served as an assistant field hockey coach for two seasons. Prior to coming to Bryn Mawr, Tarr also served as a volunteer assistant coach for the women's lacrosse team at the University of Pennsylvania.

"I will miss coaching lacrosse, especially this wonderful group of women" Tarr stated. "I have been fortunate to work with countless dedicated and talented student-athletes, and it's a time in my life that I will always cherish."

"Katie has been an outstanding leader throughout her time here at Bryn Mawr," Tierney added. "She has been a vital asset to so many of our student-athletes, and her wealth of coaching experience and wisdom on the sideline will be missed."

During her playing years at Swarthmore, Tarr proved herself to be a dominant force on the lacrosse field. She set records for most goals scored in a career and as a freshman that stood late into the 2000s. She was named both First Team All-Centennial Conference and Eastern Coast Athletic Conference All-Star twice. Tarr also built successful basketball and field hockey careers at Swarthmore. She received both the May E. Parry and the Eleanor Kay Hess awards for dedication to Swarthmore athletics and leadership in the department.

Tarr's new role as Associate Athletic Director will allow her to take on oversight of many of the day-to-day operations of the department. Her role will include serving as the director of facilities and operations, including gameday procedures as well as leadership of the department's sports medicine, athletics communications, and fitness/strength and conditioning programs. Tarr will also continue to serve as Senior Woman Administrator for the department as well.

Tierney added, "I have not been more excited for the future of Bryn Mawr Athletics than right now. These changes allow us to continue to take strong steps towards building a bright future for the student-athletes of Bryn Mawr for many years to come."

Bryn Mawr's search for its next head lacrosse coach will begin immediately.
