Complete IWLCA All-America Team
Vanessa Budd, Paige Moriarty, Sarah Bozzo, Franklin & Marshall
LANCASTER, Pa. – Three members of the No. 5 Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWCLA) All-America Team announced Friday. Vanessa Budd and Paige Moriarty both earned First Team honors, while Sarah Bozzo landed on the Third Team.
The All-America accolade is the third for Budd, second for Moriarty and the first of Bozzo's career, to elevate the program's total to 73.
Budd (Darien, Conn. / Darien) became just the fifth Diplomat to earn All-America recognition three times in her career. Her impressive senior year accolades continue to pile up and also include a spot on the All-Metro Region First Team for the third straight year, collecting the second Centennial Conference (CC) Defensive Player of the Year award of her career, and also being named to the All-CC First Team for the third consecutive season. Budd has started in all 21 of the team's games and has caused a CC-best 31 turnovers while leading F&M with 29 ground balls.
Moriarty (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge) garnered a spot on the First Team for the second consecutive year after also collecting her third straight All-Region award and being named All-CC for the third year in a row. The junior attacker currently has 95 points on the year to lead the CC and is the only player to eclipse 80 points. Her 51 goals place her fourth in the Centennial, and her 44 assists are good for second.
Bozzo (Mountain Lakes, N.J. / Mountain Lakes) picked up her third postseason award after also landing on the All-Region First Team for the first time in her career and garnering her fourth straight All-CC accolade. She ranks second on the Diplomats with 28 ground balls and second in caused turnovers with 17, playing at the heart of an F&M defense that ranks first in the CC with 169 caused turnovers and second in the Centennial (11th in the nation) with 5.96 goals allowed per game.
Cassie Smith; Caroline Jaeger, Gettysburg
Junior Cassie Smith (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and senior Caroline Jaeger (Hampton, N.J./North Hunterdon) were each selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) NCAA Division III All-America Team it was announced on Friday, May 19.
Smith earned a spot on the second team as a defender, while Jaeger landed on the third team as an attacker. Both players earned their first national accolades.
Smith turned in a breakout season in her second year as a starter. She heads into this weekend's NCAA Division III regional as the team leader in ground balls (28) and caused turnovers (20). The junior also ranks second on the team with 38 draw controls. Smith has been a leader on a defensive unit that ranks fourth in the country in scoring defense (5.20 goals allowed per game) and is on pace to break the program's season goals against average. She posted a season-high four ground balls and grabbed two draw controls in a victory over then-No. 1 Franklin & Marshall College during the regular season.
Also a first-team selection on the all-conference and all-region squads this season, Smith has racked up 52 ground balls, 32 caused turnovers, and 52 draw controls in 48 career games.
Jaeger, who was named All-Centennial Conference First Team and All-Metro Region First Team, landed her first national award as one of the primary weapons in Gettysburg's attack. The senior has tallied a career-high and team-leading 39 goals while connecting on 58.2 percent of her shots. She has scored a career-high 47 points and is tied for the team lead with 11 free-position goals. Jaeger serves a key role inside the draw circle for the Bullets as well and sits third on the team with 36 draw controls. She has scored a goal in 11 consecutive games entering the weekend, including a career-high tying four in two meetings with Franklin & Marshall.
Jaeger, who played primarily on the defensive side of the field in her first two seasons, has totaled 54 goals and 13 assists over the last two seasons. For her career, she has appeared in 79 games and accumulated 63 ground balls, 27 caused turnovers, and 101 draw controls.
Smith and Jaeger join a long list of Gettysburg players to receive national recognition from the IWLCA. Since 1985, the Bullets have received 54 All-America citations. Gettysburg has featured at least one player on the IWLCA All-America team each year since 1994.
Jordy Bonvini, Muhlenberg
A fabulous season that included the first NCAA regional ranking, the first national ranking and the first win against a No. 1 team for the Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team now includes another first - the program's first All-American.
Junior Jordy Bonvini was named to the Division III All-America second team by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Bonvini, previously named to the All-Metro Region first team and All-ECAC South first team, was the Centennial Conference offensive player of the year and a unanimous All-CC first-team selection. She led the Mules in scoring with 78 points on 63 goals - the fourth-highest season total in team history - and 15 assists. Bonvini recorded hat tricks in 14 of 17 games, with a high of seven against Haverford and five in an 8-7 upset of top-ranked Gettysburg, becoming only the second player since 2009 to score at least three goals in every regular-season CC game (the other was former teammate Stephanie Umbach in 2014).
The two-time CC player of the week and one-time IWLCA Division III player of the week also set a school and CC record with 128 draw controls. She ranks seventh in Division III in draw controls per game and 29th in goals scored.
Bonvini will enter her senior season seventh in CC history with 235 career draw controls and 12th among active Division III players in draw controls per game (4.61). She also in the top 20 on Muhlenberg's all-time lists in career goals (112) and points (151).
Maddy Siebold, Dickinson
Dickinson senior Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) has been named an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American, announced on Friday afternoon. Siebold was named a Third-team All-American in the midfield and is the second straight Red Devil to receive All-America honors, with Moira Mahoney '16 earning honors last season.
The All-America honor caps a brilliant four-year career for Siebold. She made her second straight appearance as a First-team All-Region midfielder, adding Second-team recognition in 2015. Siebold earned her second straight First-team All-Centennial Conference honor, garnering Second-team honors in the CC in 2015 as well. She ranked second in the conference with 76 draw controls, ranking third on the program single season list. She set the record last spring with 102 and became just the third Red Devil to record over 200 in her career (217).
Siebold tallied 34 goals and eight assists to move into fifth all-time at Dickinson with 168 points and 132 goals while also reaching the century mark with 105 career ground balls. Siebold added 14 caused turnovers to move into seventh all-time with 75.
