NEW YORK – Gettysburg College senior midfielder Courtney Patterson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) was the only NCAA Division III women's lacrosse player named to the 2020 Tewaaraton Award watch list it was recently announced.

Out of the 50 women's finalists, Patterson was the lone name from a Division III institution amongst a throng of Division I and II representatives.

The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.

Patterson was selected the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Midfielder of the Year in 2019 and she enters this spring as the Division III Preseason Player of the Year according to US Lacrosse Magazine. She was a first-team All-American in 2019 after piling up career highs for points (50), goals (39), assists (11), and draw controls (100). She was just the third Gettysburg player ever to reach the century mark in draw controls.

The Centennial Conference Midfielder of the Year and a first-team selection at the conference and regional levels, Patterson shined brightest in some of Gettysburg's biggest games. She tracked down a career-high 11 draw controls against No. 19 Ithaca College in a game held at the headquarters of US Lacrosse and she posted four goals and three assists in a win over No. 7 York (Pa.) College.

A three-time all-conference honoree, Patterson ranks fourth on the program's career list with 246 draw controls. She has scored 105 points on 90 goals and 15 assists in 68 games. The senior has helped Gettysburg claim a pair of national titles (2017, 2018) and two Centennial Conference championships (2018, 2019).

Gettysburg has featured a student-athlete on the Tewaaraton Watch List in each of the last two seasons. Steph Colson '19 was named to the list last season. Prior to that, the last Bullet to earn the nod was Hannah Church '12 in 2012.

On April 23, the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees.Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions. Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced on May 7 and invited to the 20th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 28.  To learn more about The Tewaaraton Foundation, please visit www.tewaaraton.com.

Gettysburg finished 19-2 overall last season and won its 12th conference championship. The team advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs for the 18th consecutive season and made it to the quarterfinals. The Bullets were picked fourth in the IWLCA Preseason Coaches' Poll this season.

Gettysburg opens the year at Messiah College on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 4 p.m.
