NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Recently retired Gettysburg College head women's lacrosse coach Carol Cantele '83 was named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Metro Region Coach of the Year on Tuesday.

It marks the 10th time that Cantele was lauded with the honor and first since 2017, when she was also named the national coach of the year.

In her final year of a stellar 30-year run as the Bullets' mentor, Cantele guided the squad into the NCAA Division III semifinals for the eighth time.

Cantele guided Gettysburg to its 13th Centennial Conference (CC) crown with an 8-5 home win over Franklin & Marshall on May 8. Her squad completed a perfect conference season to earn the top seed in the tournament and right to host the tournament, garnering her CC Coach of the Year honors for the third time in her career.

The Bullets won their first three NCAA tournament games – all at home – for a return trip to the national semifinals, where they dropped an 18-5 decision to eventual champion Middlebury.

Cantele retired at season's end with an overall record of 446-115 in 30 years at Gettysburg. Charlotte Cunningham, who has been instrumental in the team's success as an assistant coach for Cantele over the last four seasons, was recently named head coach.
