Hopkins Advances, Haverford Ousted in NCAA First Round

Sydney Teng put an exclamation point on her first career hat trick with a spectacular bicycle kick to lead the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team past Lancaster Bible, 5-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday night. The Blue Jays will face the winner of Rowan and Virginia Wesleyan in the second round. Teng became just the second player in Hopkins history to notch a hat trick in the NCAA Tournament, matching Paulina Goodman's three-goal effort last season against Springfield. The match also proved to be a milestone occasion for sophomore Hannah Kronick, who broke the Hopkins single-season points record by tallying her 54th point of the season. The previous record was set last season by Erica Suter (53).

The 2012 season came to a heart-breaking halt Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the national tournament for Haverford College's women's soccer team as the 25th-ranked Fords played the visitors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to a 0-0, double-overtime draw at Walton Field, but watched the Engineers advance into the second round of the NCAA 2012 Division III women's soccer championship by virtue of a 4-2 count in penalty kicks.

ECAC Semifinals - Wilkes 1, Swarthmore 1 (OT) - Wilkes advances in PKs, 5-3
The Swarthmore College women's soccer team (13-6-2) came up short in an ECAC semi-final round match, falling 5-3 in penalty kicks to Wilkes University (12-4-5). In a decisive shootout between two inseparable teams, Wilkes hit all 5 of their shots to win and advance to the final of the ECAC tournament, facing Stevenson tomorrow afternoon.
