Cambridge, Mass. (November 20) – No. 14-ranked Wesleyan University continued its storybook season with a 2-1 win over No. 2-ranked Johns Hopkins University in 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament Third Round action at Roberts Field on the campus of MIT.

Wesleyan senior midfielder Remi Feuerman (San Francisco, Calif.) broke a 1-1 tie in the 49th minute with a superb strike into the top right corner of the net off an assist from Audrey Lavey (Newton, Mass.) to punch the Cardinals' ticket to the quarterfinal round for the first time in program history.

Lavey chased down an over the top pass in the left corner of the penalty box and then dribbled through a pair of JHU defenders to create space. She dropped the ball back to Feuerman who came onto it immediately and laced the ball into the top right corner of the net leaving JHU goalkeeper Caitlin Hendricks (San Diego, Calif.) no chance.

Wesleyan (17-1-2) struck first at the 19:50 mark of the game with Emily Ribatt (Brookline, Mass.) scoring her second goal of the season after she stole a failed clear away and then fired a shot with her left foot into the back of the net.

Johns Hopkins (16-2-2) equalized just over five minutes later with Sophia Stone (Los Angeles, Calif.) cashing in on a free-kick opportunity for her third goal of the season. Stone struck the ball from 35 yards out and the ball tipped off Wesleyan goalkeeper Sarah Hammond's (Canton, Mich.) finger tips to knot the score at 1-1 in the 26th minute.

Hammond extended her program-record career win total to 28, improving to 16-1-2 on the season. She made five saves, while Hendricks countered with five saves as well. Hendricks finished the season with a 14-2-2 record.

Both Wesleyan and Johns Hopkins fired 11 shots at the net. Wesleyan held a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal, while Johns Hopkins held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Wesleyan stretched its unbeaten streak to 13 straight. The Cardinals are in their first NCAA Tournament appearance since the program started in 1978 and will await the winner of host MIT and Carnegie Mellon in the other Cambridge Sectional semifinal.

The Cardinals will face the winner at 1 p.m. on Sunday for a spot in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament final four, set to take place Dec. 3 and 4 in Greensboro, N.C.

Johns Hopkins wrapped up its 19th NCAA Tournament appearance with just its fourth loss all-time in round of 16 games. The Blue Jays were 6-3-1 coming into Saturday's game and advanced to the national quarterfinals in 2019.
