Hopkins Women's Tennis Heads to MIT for NCAA Regional

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team will travel to MIT for the 2023 NCAA Regional it was announced this afternoon. The Blue Jays are making their 16th straight NCAA Tournament appearance and earned a first-round bye. JHU will play the winner of Stevens and Husson in the second round.
 
The MIT Regional
Johns Hopkins (19-3), Stevens (10-9) and Husson (10-1) are three of the six teams that will compete in the MIT Regional. The host Engineers (15-3) received a first-round bye and will take on the winner of the opening-round match between Colby-Sawyer (12-7) and UMass Boston (12-2).
 
The first-round matches will take place on Friday, May 5 at the DuPont Tennis Courts. The second-round matches will take place on Saturday, with the winners to meet in the regional final on Sunday, May 7.
 
JHU's NCAA Tournament History
The Blue Jays have made every NCAA Tournament since 2007 and are 23-16 all-tie in the tournament. Hopkins has won its opening match in each of its previous 15 tournament appearances. This is the 11th time that the Blue Jays have earned a first-round bye. JHU has made 13 appearances in the NCAA Sweet 16 and four in the Elite Eight.
 
Series History
Johns Hopkins and Stevens met for the first time earlier this year, with the Blue Jays winning 8-1 on February 26. Hopkins and Husson have never met and the teams have no common opponents this season. The Blue Jays have also never faced any of the other three teams in the regional.
 
What's Next
The winner of the MIT Regional will take on the winner of the regional that includes Middlebury, Hartwick, Lebanon Valley, Skidmore, Drew and Hunter in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Sunday, May 14 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, FL. Johns Hopkins has advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals four times (2012, 2013, 2014, 2017) with one NCAA Semifinal appearance (2014).
