LANCASTER, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins won 10 of 19 events en route to its 12th straight Centennial Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field championship on Sunday at Franklin & Marshall. The Blue Jays compiled 291 points on their way to the second-highest margin of victory in championship history.
Dickinson placed second with 102 points, followed by Swarthmore (91), Ursinus (61), and Gettysburg (54.5) in the top five.
Dickinson's Sara Penuela and Swarthmore's Adria Retter were honored as the Most Oustanding Track Performer and Most Outstanding Field Performer of the meet, respectively. Penuela earned top track performer honors after winning the 200 meters, taking fourth in the 60-meter dash, contributing to the conference and championship record-breaking 4x200 relay for the Red Devils and anchoring the silver medal 4x400 relay. Retter won both of the throwing events, setting a new championship record in the weight throw (16.31m) and claiming top honorss in the shot put at 14.11m.
Five championship meet records and one conference record were broken throughout the two-day event. In addition to Dickinson's 4x200 relay and Retter's weight throw, JHU's Victoria Kadiri set new standards in the 60-meter dash (7.80) and triple jump (12.18m), while the Hopkins 4x400 relay raced to a championship record of 3:57.90.
Hopkins led the gold medal count with 11, followed by Swarthmore (4), Dickinson (2), Ursinus (2) and Gettysburg (1). For JHU, Kadiri won four golds (60m, 60h, long jump, triple jump), Sara Stephenson (10:00.95) and Stephanie Brown (17:46.97) swept the 3000 and 5000 meters, respectively, Taryn Silvernale won the high jump (1.59m) and pole vault (3.54m), and the Blue Jays also claimed gold in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays,.
Retter's two golds paced the Garnet, while Rose Tezsler won the 800 (2:14.97) and Hannah Swale took top honors in the pentathlon (2,902).
Other gold medalists included Ursinus' Rachel Conhoff in the mile (5:01.69) and the Bears' distance medley relay (12:21.05), along with Gettysburg's Lillian Boudreau in the 400 (58.82)
