Benoit Resigns at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College Athletic Department has announced the resignation of head volleyball coach Michele Benoit effective February 26.

Benoit is stepping down after five years as head coach at Haverford to take the same position at John Carroll Universtiy in Ohio. In addition to her head coaching responsibilities, Benoit also served as Haverford's Club Sports & Intramural Coordinator.

"Throughout her five years at Haverford, Michele provided an environment in which our student-athletes could succeed both academically and athletically," said Haverford College Director of Athletics Wendy Smith. "We thank Michele for all she has done for our volleyball program and wish her the best of luck in all of her future endeavors."

A coach with over 500 career victories, Benoit finishes with a 98-51 record during her five seasons at Haverford. This stretch included four Centennial Conference Tournament appearances. Haverford advanced to the NCAA Regional semifinals during the 2014 season after receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship following a first place finish in the Centennial Conference regular season standings.

During this past fall, the Fords advanced to the Centennial Conference Championship match for the first time in Benoit's tenure before being denied a second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament following a five-set loss in the championship match.

Benoit's players earned 12 All-Centennial Conference accolades during her time on the sidelines. This list is highlighted by two-time All-American and 2014 Centennial Conference Player of the Year Meg O'Day '16. In the classroom, her student-athletes combined to place 25 players on the conference's academic honor roll. That total included a program-record seven honorees during the 2015 campaign.

A search for Benoit's replacement will begin immediately.
