Blue Jays Hold Off Diplomats for CC Crown

Championship Central

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Top-seeded Johns Hopkins held off second-seeded Franklin & Marshall 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-20) to collect its fourth consecutive Centennial Conference Volleyball Championship on Sunday afternoon at Goldfarb Gymnasium.

A day after setting a new CC record for consecutive victories, the Blue Jays secured the seventh conference title in program history and will enter the NCAA Tournament with a perfect 29-0 record. The Diplomats (20-6), meanwhile, must now wait for Monday's NCAA selection show at 12:30 p.m. in hopes of earning an at-large bid to the NCAA postseason.

Trailing 24-17 in the first set and on the brink of dropping their first set to a conference opponent this season, the Blue Jays completed a remarkable rally by fending off seven set points and ultimately prevailing, 26-24. JHU once again edged F&M in set No. 2 by a 25-23 margin, before completing the sweep with a 25-20 triumph in the third.

Simone Bliss was named Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the team with 15 kills for the second-straight match. She also added 10 digs for her ninth double-double of the season.
