Johns Hopkins advanced to the round of 16 for the second straight year while Haverford saw its season come to a close in the second round of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
In Baltimore, Md., Top-ranked Hopkins defeated Springfield 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 28-26) to extend its NCAA Division III-record winning streak to 66 matches in a row. The Blue Jays will take on Tufts in the third round on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Goldfarb Gymnasium with a trip to the Elite Eight in St. Louis, Mo. on the line.
Simone Bliss (14 kills) and Lauren Anthony (10 kills) led the Blue Jay offense. Bliss hit .414 from the outside while Anthony hit .353 from the middle. Eleni Panagopoulos continued to attack with incredible efficiency, adding six kills on a .750 hitting percentage. Natalie Aston picked up 41 assists on 47 Blue Jay kills. The senior has 40 or more assists in three different three-set matches in 2021.
In Cambridge, Mass., Haverford fell to 18th-ranked MIT 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-23). The Fords conclude the year with a 24-6 record. Dina Kosyagin tallied a match-high 14 kills, while Sara Hunsberger added 25 assists and Juliet Young notched 14 assists.
