Ross, Hopkins Secure Regional Titles

Alex Ross and Johns Hopkins came away with Mid-Atlantic Regional titles while Swarthmore and Ursinus' Rachel Conhoff secured runner-up finishes at the Metro Regional to lead Centennial Conference performances at the NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday. 

 

Twenty Centennial runners earned all-region honors with top-35 finishes across the two regional meets. 


CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Swarthmore finished as the runners-up for the second straight year while Ursinus' Rachel Conhoff placed second individually to lead Centennial performances at the NCAA Metro Regional Championship hosted by DeSales. 

The Garnet totaled 97 points to finish behind only Widener (77) in the team standings. Rose Teszler led Swarthmore with a sixth-place finish (23:20) while Olivia Montini (8th; 23:28), Alina Irvine (12th, 23:53) and Cat Crochunis-Brown (22nd; 24:12) also nabbed all-region medals for the Garnet. 

Ursinus placed seventh in the team standings with 211 points, led by Conhoff's second-place finish in 22:54. 

Haverford took 12th in the team standings, led by Katie Hirsche's fifth-place finish (23:18). 

Bryn Mawr (16th) and Muhlenberg (17th) finished back to back to round out the Centennial team scoring at the Metro regional. Muhlenberg's Adrienne Ellison secured all-region recognition with a 34th place finish in 24:33. 

 


LOCK HAVEN Pa. -- Johns Hopkins' Alex Ross and the Blue Jays captured titles at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Saturday. Ross becomes the 19th regional champion in CC history while the Blue Jays won their 14th straight team crown. JHU placed all five of its scoring runners in the top 15 and totaled 40 points to easily outdistance runner-up Carnegie Mellon, which placed second with 112 points.
 
Ross, who was the regional runner-up a year ago, grabbed her individual title by crossing the line in 21:42.8 to edge Scranton's Jessica Hoffmann by just over four seconds (21:47.0). Sara Stephenson bookended a one-three finish for Johns Hopkins' top two finishers as she came across in 21:53.6; this is the sixth time that Johns Hopkins has had two of the top three finishers at the regional. Isis Diaz finished seventh (22:22.7) while Katharine Priu (15th; 22:41.9), Triya Roy (16th; 22:42.1), Jamie Stelnik (20th; 22:51.9), and Cooper Brotherton (27th; 22:58.2) also grabbed all-region honors for JHU. 
 
With its title, Johns Hopkins earns an automatic bid to next week's NCAA Championships.  The championship will take place in East Lansing, Michigan with the Blue Jays seeking their third consecutive title and record-breaking eight overall; all seven of the team's national championships have come since 2012.

 

Dickinson placed fourth in the team standings with 170 points, led by Myra Naqvi (17th; 22:46.9), Madison Garber (30th; 23:00.9) and Sammy Jo Barnes (33rd: 23:07.6), who each earned all-region accolades with top-35 placings. 

Gettysburg took sixth with 233 points, led by Amy Cantrell in 32nd place at 23:05.9 and Kathryn Hopkins in 34th at 23:08.2

F&M (17th) and McDaniel (24th) rounded out the Centennial team scores. F&M's Emma Kline secured all-region honors with a 29th-place finish (23:00.0)
