Head Coach Mike Hoyt

Hoyt (Canisius '92) was hired on Mar. 6, 2012 as the 24th head coach in the storied history of Green Terror football and will roam the sidelines in 2012 for the first time as a head coach ... Hoyt joins McDaniel after spending the last eight seasons as the defensive coordinator at Albright, culminating with being a finalist for the American Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year award in 2011.

A new day dawns in Westminster with the beginning of the Mike Hoyt era ... the new coach does welcome back eight starters from an offense that averaged 25 points per game ... junior RB Joe Rollins led the Conference with 1,401 rushing yards and found the end zone 11 times ... he has gained over 2,000 in his first two seasons on The Hill ... soph QB Nick Valori threw for 1,638 yards and 12 TDs as a rookie, completing 54.5 percent of his passes ... he also ran for five scores ... junior Nick O'Melia was his favorite target and is one of the top deep threats in the Conference ... he caught 33 balls for 644 yards and eight TDs a year ago ... senior Tom Orrok also snared 16 passes ... senior Tyler Lloyd leads an experienced interior line at left tackle ... classmate Sean Searfass is the center, while juniors Joshua Campbell and Brian Kooser man the right side.

The Green Terror defense struggled last fall, surrendering 429 yards and 29 points per game ... eight starters return for the unit, led by senior S Tim McLister, who registered team-highs with 71 tackles and five interceptions in 2011 ... classmate CB Kevin White had 41 stops and two picks, while junior S Nick Chuong made 32 tackles ... senior NT Steve Wetherhold is the leader of the defensive front ... he had three sacks among his 40 tackles last fall ... junior Derrick Miles had 25 stops and recovered a pair of fumbles ... junior Mike Cousar headlines an experienced trio of linebackers ... he had 70 tackles with 12 for loss, including three sacks ... seniors Diego Weiner and Zach Martin are also back in the fold.

2012 Outlook

McDaniel is excited about a new season with a new coach and welcomes back 16 starters ... the offense averaged more points than any season since 2001 last fall, but the defense surrendered more than 20 points per game for the seventh straight season ... Hoyt's forte' is defense and its improvement could be the difference for the Green Terror in 2012.

 

In its unique bowl setting, Kenneth R. Gill Stadium is the home of the Green Terror football, men's and women's lacrosse and men's and women's track and field teams. Sportexe Momemtum Turf was installed in 2004. Surrounding the field is an eight-lane track.
