Bowl Series Helps Special Olympics

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Inaugural Centennial-MAC Bowl Series between the Centennial Conference and the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) raised $1,386 for local Special Olympics organizations.

The two conferences used this platform to support the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) partnership with Special Olympics by donating 25 percent of ticket revenue generated during the Bowl Series to the local organizations of where the games were played. Giving back to local and regional communities not only adds to the comprehensive learning component of Division III, but also provides a venue for passion and service.

"The MAC has a special relationship with Special Olympics because our Associate Executive Director, Marie Stroman, chaired the NCAA Division III SAAC when the partnership formed," said Ken Andrews, Executive Director of the MAC. "It gives us great pleasure to build on Marie's initiative that created these opportunities for Division III athletes and institutions to interact with such a great organization."

"The Centennial Conference believes that the benefits of athletics participation provide significant value to the educational experience and our involvement with Special Olympics promotes that," said Steve Ulrich, Executive Director of the Centennial Conference. "We are happy to support a platform that recognizes Special Olympics within their communities and raises awareness of its athletes, programs and services."

The first-ever Centennial-MAC Bowl Series games were played at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pa., and Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. on Saturday, Nov. 21.

Delaware Valley (9-2) defeated Moravian College (8-3) by a score of 20-16. Muhlenberg (8-3) welcomed Stevenson (9-2) in the other bowl game. Stevenson held on to the victory by a score of 14-9 to give the MAC both wins in the inaugural year.
