Auvil Headlines Five Named to Academic All-America Team

2015 Division III Academic All-America Football team release

Senior Bryan Auvil of the Muhlenberg football team was named to the Division III Academic All-America® first team, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America, for the second year in a row.

Auvil is the fifth Mule athlete in all sports to earn first-team Academic All-America honors more than once, joining Ed Salo (football, 1970-72), GloriaAnn Hardy (softball/field hockey, 1984-85), Bobby Torphy (cross country/track and field, 2010-11) and Tyler Bauer (track and field, 2014-15).

A chemistry major, Auvil made 37 straight starts on the offensive line, earning All-Centennial Conference honors three consecutive years. During his career, Muhlenberg went 33-11, receiving postseason berths all four years, and averaged more than 32 points and 400 yards per game. The Mules rank 17th in Division III in average time of possession this season.

Auvil's blocking helped teammates garner first-team All-CC honors at quarterback, wide receiver and tight end, and a Mule running back was the 2014 CC rookie of the year.

Auvil served as a team captain in 2015 and was named the CC's scholar-athlete of the year for the second straight year.

A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Auvil has made the Dean's List every semester at Muhlenberg. He conducted summer research on a possible method for treating Alzheimer's Disease in the summer of 2014 and interned with a cardiothoracic surgeon at Lehigh Valley Health Network this past summer.

The offseason continues to shine for senior Kodie McNamara (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) as the linebacker was named Academic All-America Division III Second team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

The Academic All-America Team represents the apex of athletic and academic achievement. A mathematics major, McNamara carries a 3.9 cumulative grade-point average. He has been named to the Dean's Honor List five times in six semesters.

On the field, the senior linebacker has spent the last two seasons as captain of the football team. He led the Bullets in tackles in each of his final three campaigns and twice he paced the entire Centennial Conference. This past fall, he piled up 107 tackles and set new personal standards with 3.5 tackles for a loss and seven passes defended. In a match up against Ursinus College, McNamara tallied 20 tackles, the most by a Bullet in 11 years. He helped Gettysburg post a 7-3 record this fall, tied for the most wins by the program in the last two decades.

McNamara never missed a start in his four years on the football team. He finished his career second in program history with 396 tackles.

Tuesday's award lifts McNamara into rare company among his Gettysburg peers. McNamara is just the fifth football player from Gettysburg to earn a spot on the Academic All-America Team, and he is the first to do so since Larry DelViscio '13 was named second team in 2011. He is also the 22nd Gettysburg student-athlete to achieve Academic All-America status.

It has been a busy fall for McNamara who has been honored several times already, including most recently as a semifinalist for the coveted Gagliardi Trophy. He was also named All-Centennial Conference First Team, Academic All-District First Team, and as a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy.

Three members of the Johns Hopkins football team have been named to the 2015 Division III CoSIDA Academic All-America Football Team it was announced today. Senior offensive lineman Rowan Cade (Shaker Heights, OH/University School), junior linebacker Jack Campbell (Chagrin Falls, OH/Chagrin Falls) and junior safety Jack Toner(Western Springs/Benet Academy) were all named to the second team and boost Johns Hopkins' all-time number of Academic All-Americans in football to 25.

Johns Hopkins' three selections are tied with Rose-Hulman for the most of any team in the nation and also tie the program record. This is the third time Johns Hopkins has produced three Academic All-Americans in football in the same season (2011, 2013); this is also the fifth straight year that head coach Jim Margraff's team has had two more Academic All-Americans.

Cade is majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a minor or Entrepreneurship and Management and has a 3.77 cumulative GPA. A two-time First Team All-Centennial Conference and two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and a Second Team D3football.com All-South Region selection last season, Cade led the way for an offense that averaged school-records of 45.7 points and 505.8 yards per game in 2015.

Since arriving at Johns Hopkins, Cade has completed three intense summer programs, including two at the Cleveland Clinic and a third at Booz Allen Hamilton. Cade is also a senior design team leader and calculus tutor on campus. Cade is the sixth Johns Hopkins offensive lineman to earn Academic All-America honors since 2009.

Campbell is majoring in Biology and has a 3.93 cumulative GPA. A Second Team All-Centennial selection this season, he led the team in tackles (101) and counts career totals of 179 tackles, 8.0 tackles for losses and three sacks to his credit. His 101 tackles this season are the most by a Johns Hopkins player since Ryan Piatek had 111 in 2010 and he is just the third Johns Hopkins player in the last 20 seasons to post 100 or more tackles in a season.

Campbell served as a Patient Assistant volunteer at the Cleveland Clinic last summer and helps tutor/mentor inner-city Baltimore children. Campbell has twice worked as a summer research intern at the Cleveland Clinic and was also a clinical observer there last summer. He is the fourth Johns Hopkins linebacker to earn Academic All-American honors.

Toner is one of the top defensive backs in the nation and has earned First Team All-Centennial Conference honors in each of the last two years. He finished fifth on the team in tackles (51), led the team in interceptions (6) and ranked second in pass breakups this season (9). He has career totals of 133 tackles, 18 pass breakups, 10 interceptions, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. His 10 career interceptions are tied for ninth in program history.

Toner is majoring in Economics and boasts a 3.83 cumulative GPA. He is a volunteer with the Johns Hopkins' AND1 Tutoring program with young local athletes and completed summer internships at the Financial Strategy Network (2014) and William Blair & Co (2015). He is also a macroeconomics tutor and research assistant focusing on the New Zealand currency board in 1850s. Toner is the second Johns Hopkins defensive back to earn Academic All-America honors as he joins Jim Sanders(2005 • 2nd Team) on this exclusive list.

Johns Hopkins posted an 11-1 record, won a seventh straight Centennial Conference title and spent the entire 2015 season ranked in the top 15 in the nation. The Blue Jays made their fifth straight trip to the NCAA Division III Playoffs and advanced to the second round for the third time in four years.
