The Centennial Conference mourns the passing of Edward F. Sweeney, head football coach at Dickinson College from 1985-92. He compiled a 56-23-3 record and won five consecutive Centennial titles (1988-92), earning Kodak District II Coach of the Year honors in 1989. 

He left Dickinson after the 1992 season to become head coach at Colgate. Sweeney also served as head coach at Frostburg State (1996-99) and Mount Ida (2000-07).
