Adams & Monn Win Regional Tiitles; Seven Qualify for Nationals

Ursinus' Terry Adams and McDaniel's Thomas Monn captured individual regional titles to lead a group of seven Centennial Conference wrestlers that qualifed for nationals at the NCAA Regional Championships over the weekend. 

The six Centennial wrestling teams competed at three different regional sites. At the Mideast Regional, McDaniel placed eighth out of 19 teams with 72 points, followed by Muhlenberg in ninth placd (67.5), Ursinus in 10th (67) and Johns Hopkins in 13th (46.5). At the Northeast Regional, Merchant Marine finished 13th out of the 19 competing teams with 42 points, while Gettysburg took 14th out of 21 teams at the Southeast Regional with 36 team points. 

Adams claimed the 125 Mideast title over Muhlenberg's Joey Lamparelli in a rematch of the CC title bout. After falling to Lamparelli by a 3-1 decision at the CC meet, Adams claimed some revenge with a 4-3 decision in the championship bout. Both Adams and Lamparelli advance to the national championships for the second year in a row. 

Monn, who was named both the Centennial Wrestler of the Year and Rookie of the Year a few weeks ago, continued his unblemished freshman campaign and now sits 33-0 on the year. Monn is McDaniel's first regional champion since 2016. 

Brandon Bowles (157) and Anson Dewar (174) joined Lamparelli as national qualifers for Muhlenberg, giving the Mules a conference-leading three wrestlers heading to the national meet. Dewar placed second at 174, while Bowles won the consolation final at 157 to earn the final spot at nationals. Bowles heads back to nationals for the second year in a row, 

Gettysburg's Luke Kowalski also earned a repeat bid to the NCAA championships after claiming third place at the Southeast Regional at 133.

Merchant Marine's James Cruz will represent the Mariners at nationals after securing a third-place finish at 197 at the Northeast Regional. 

The national championship is set for March 10-11 at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Va.
