Ursinus 112, Washington College 82
The Ursinus College women's swimming team moved its
record to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the conference with a 112-82 win
over Washington College on Saturday afternoon. Five different
swimmers took first place finishes, while the Bears won both relays
on the afternoon.
Gettysburg 166, Swarthmore
96
The Gettysburg College swimming team stayed
undefeated in the Centennial Conference, defeating Swarthmore
College Saturday afternoon. The women (7-1, 5-0 CC) captured a
166-96 decision and are now in sole possession of first. The
Bullet women came away with nine victories and swept the
100-backstroke, 200-backstroke, and 500-freestyle. Leading the way
with two wins apiece were freshman Lea
Candelmo (Oakland, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) in
the 1,000-freestyle (10:44.90) and 200-IM (2:16.00),
freshman Marie
Gingher (Boalsburg, Pa./State College) in the
100-breaststroke (1:09.07) and 200-breaststroke (2:31.51), and
sophomore Cooper
Kearns (West Hartford, Conn./Miss Porter’s
School) in the 200-butterfly (2:17.00) and 500-freestyle
(5:21.73).
Dickinson 105, Franklin & Marshall
100
The Dickinson women's swim team won in dramatic fashion on
Saturday, needing the final event to secure the win for the Red
Devils. The women posted a 105-100 decision. The win gave head
coach Paul Richards the
400th victory of his collegiate
coaching career. He raises his career record to 401-204-1, and has
262 combined wins in his 19 seasons at Dickinson. The Red
Devil women turned in some strong individual performances as well.
First-year Caitlin
Klockner (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough
Regional) led the way, swimming the lead leg of the
winning 400 free relay, clocking a time of 3:41.63. She also won
the 200 freestyle (1:57.58) and placed second in the 100 free with
a time of 54.88.
McDaniel 67, Bryn Mawr 51
McDaniel won nine of the first 11 events competed to
open up a 67-29 lead, defeating Bryn Mawr 67-52 in Centennial Conference (CC)
women's swimming action on Saturday. Swimming the final event
as exhibition, the 400 free relay led the Green Terror (4-7, 1-5
CC) with a pool record time of 3:45.05. The quartet of Caroline
Sussman (Washington, D.C./Spring Ridge), Abbie
Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life), Allison
Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) and Emma
Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) edged the
previous best mark at Harlow Pool by 0.63 seconds. It was also the
fourth-best time in program history. Schickler, Duesterhaus
and Kerrie
Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) each recorded two
official victories for McDaniel.
