GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Defending champion Ursinus holds the team lead after the first day of the 22nd annual Centennial Conference women's swimming championship at Gettysburg College.
The Bears have a 41-point lead over Franklin & Marshall (234-191) with the host Bullets in third at 151. Swarthmore (139) and Dickinson (123) are fourth and fifth, respectively, while McDaniel (106), Washington College (89) and Bryn Mawr (50) follow.
The women broke all five event records on opening night. Ursinus opened the evening with a record-setting performance in the 200 medley relay in 1:36.89. Franklin & Marshall freshman Bridget Dromerick was next, winning the 500 freestyle in 4:55.65, while Bear sophomore Katie Pielmeier captured the 200 individual medley in 2:07.70. Swarthmore senior Kate Wiseman kept the string going, setting a Conference record in the 50 freestyle for the second time in nine hours, hitting the wall in 23.88. And Wiseman anchored the winning 400 medley relay that came from behind to win the gold in 3:55.24.
Action continues Saturday with trials at 10 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
NOTES
- Wiseman becomes the fifth woman to win the 50-freestyle three times (2012-13-15).
- Pielmeier becomes first Ursinus woman to win 200 IM.
