LANCASTER, Pa. - The Centennial Conference and the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) will continue with its postseason bowl series in 2016 it was announced Wednesday by the conference commissioners. The Second Annual Centennial-MAC Bowl Series will take place on Saturday, November 19 at locations to be determined following the final weekend of regular-season action.
The Centennial-MAC Bowl Series will involve the top two teams from each conference that are not selected to the NCAA Division III Championship. The top team from each conference that is not selected to the NCAA Championship will host the second best team from the opposing conference not moving on to NCAAs in one game of the series.
Ticket prices will be $5 for adults and $2 for students. Special Olympics athletes and children under the age of six are admitted for free.
"In the first year of this series (2015), we had two games that came down to the last seconds of play. Based on our long history with the Centennial Conference, we can anticipate two highly competitive games again this fall," said Ken Andrews, Executive Director of the MAC. "As our conference schools become more familiar with the series, we expect fan turnout and excitement to increase."
"We hope that the second year of the Centennial-MAC Bowl Series lives up to the success of the inaugural season and continues to grow," said Steve Ulrich, Executive Director of the Centennial Conference. "The opportunity to provide our football student-athletes with a postseason experience against quality competition from the MAC will cap our gridiron season for years to come."
The Inaugural Centennial-MAC Bowl Series saw the MAC earn two victories over the Centennial Conference. Delaware Valley hosted Moravian, where the Aggies defeated the Greyhounds by a score of 20-16. Stevenson traveled to Muhlenberg in the other game, where the Mustangs defeated the Mules by a score of 14-9. Delaware Valley and Stevenson both finished their seasons with a 9-2 record.
The two conferences will continue to support the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) partnership with Special Olympics by donating 25 percent of ticket revenue generated during the Bowl Series to the organization. Giving back to local and regional communities not only adds to the comprehensive learning component of Division III, but also provides a venue for passion and service.
NCAA rules permit a conference-sponsored postseason tournament – one between teams that are not identified until the end of the preceding regular season – not to exceed one contest for any one institution.
